| Joshua Tree National Park is located in southern California, a short 2-3 hour drive from either Los Angeles or Phoenix. From LA travel about 140 miles east on I 10. The north and west park entrances are off Cal 62 at the towns of Joshua Tree and Twenty Nine Palms. The south entrance is at Cottonwood Springs about 25 miles east of Indio off I 10. Their campsites are mostly located in surreal settings of giant boulder formations, our favorite is Jumbo Rock. If you want to camp, plan ahead. Reserve your camp site if possible. If you call less than 48 hours ahead of time there is no way to reserve a site and you’ll have to try for 1st come 1st serve sites, those usually fill by noon on Fridays. Pets are not allowed except on the roads and in the campgrounds. If you plan to hike, you will need to leave your pet at home or bring a pet sitter. For more information visit www.nps.gov/jotr. |

| The Kelso Dunes are located in the Mojave National Preserve, about a 90 minute drive from Joshua Tree National Park. The Preserve is easily reached via I-15 or I-40 east of Barstow, CA, and west of Needles, CA and Las Vegas, NV. If you visit, be prepared for the hike to the top. We recommend bringing plenty of water and carrying the minimum amount of gear. For more information go to www.nps.gov/moja. |
